For every aspiring author, there’s always a time when their writing anima begins to fail them. Whether caused by disillusionment, heartbreaks or distraction, one could never guess. But as they say, to each, his own.
The same holds true for me, I guess. It’s quite ironic that the same zeal which motivated me to write the aethros story also was the one that had put an end to it.
Looking back on my early days of writing (about a couple of weeks ago), I realized that I was young and stupid, in other words, naive about writing. I’ve thought that writing is cake and pie (piece of cake, easy as pie), but then as I begin to unravel my story, I had finished the third chapter already, which amounted to sixty pages (quite a feat for a novice, eh?), when an epiphany came to me in the form of a dusty dean koontz book I found lying under my computer desk.
And that’s when I realized that the whole three chapter’s no fun at all, so I deleted the whole three files at docs.google.com and started a new one. Of course, you might disagree with me about that, since you havent read it yet. But I assure you, it’s completely rubbish. Shakespearean, no doubt. But who reads shakespeare nowadays?
And so I rewrote my story, the way I should have written it long ago. Not like a documentary or a chronicle of the hero’s life, but life, itself through the hero’s own eyes. Of course, the first three chapters were written like a treatise of existentialism in aethros (which is one of my supposed to be more subtle themes in the story). Just goes to show that putting thematic lines in your first chapter always make the rest of the story a major flop.
The new story retains my original characters, except that they will be more real, and the projection of their thoughts, idealisms and various personalities will reflect strongly in the decisions they will choose as the story goes on. I’ve chosen stephen king as a reference for my choice of words since the introductory chapters will be written in film-noir fashion. And also a bit of Dean Koontz and Clive Barker would help me devise ingenuous psychological twists that *I hope* will strengthen the image of the central characters and depth. And please, if you’re curious about the authors I mentioned, try any but Clive Barker, because his books are gross, violent and macabre. He will give you nightmares, and I’m serious with that.
So that’s all for now. I wont be in Iloilo for the next week, because I will be in Bacolod serving with the Ycom peeps and preparing for Regional Leaders Conference. Speaking of which, I’ve just finished editing the video for one of the creative presentations before the talk(I hope you wont mind me bragging. hehe). I would’ve love to share with you all the RLC theme right now, but it could be a spoiler plus it’s prohibited by the rest of the team. hehehe. I’m done with piracy. that’s why the only word processor I use is in a free internet website, that’s http://docs.google.com. Boy, I should charge them with all these exposure. wehehe.
That’s all for now, kids. I’ll be posting the link xchange bulletin issue after a couple of hours. And be sure to check out my sites. Here’s a list of ‘em:
