Looking back at the things that happened to me during the RLC, it may not be so bad after all. In fact, I felt that it was that way as God had intended it to be. I’ve had a great time actually, meeting new friends, helping out, looking beyond stereotypes and focusing more on the more positive side of the person. I admit, I missed quite a number of the new friends I met after only a couple of days, which was quite a surprising experience at first, seeing that for most of my life, there’s that leave-and-let-go attitude defense mechanism I’ve had whenever I met new people whom I actually liked.
As my Russell had said, I was really lucky to be hanging out with people like Kuya Jeff, Ate Grace, Ate Aiza, Kuya Eman, Kuya Lloyd and Kuya Joven, because they were all renowned youth leaders. Furthermore, they’re quite popular. But I had never really thought of them as celebrities, they were more like role models, which absolutely says a lot about the profound way in which I viewed them. In the short time I’ve had with them, I learned many unsaid things that only the heart could understand. Modesty, Simplicity, Commitment and as such, were only simple words that does not exactly compensate for the true examples they had showed to me. Aloof as I am, they made me felt that i was a part of the group, of course, in a wholesome and a bit funny manner. Kuya jeff would occasionally jab me, ate grace would ask if I feel okay, and of course, jeremy was always friendly and cheerful, and a bit entertaining siguro. I like the way he replaced the commonly used word “ha?” with “pardon”. I’ll imitate and make a habit of that sometime, except of course with some minor altercations like adding a hint of french in the word like “pahr downee mwa” or something like that.
Kat Chu was helpful with the music, though a bit silent sometimes, a lot like me, I guess. Though she’s quite focused in her work/duty, she occassionally would be a bit cheerful. Mei-Ann was there, Ayla’s younger sister, which quite surprised me. We’ve never talked before but she’s friendly, and you’d easily get comfortable engaging her in a conversation. She provided the laptop in which we worked on.
There’s a lot more YFC people that deserved credit to be put here.
